Hillylands Independent Living Centre is a resource for people of all ages who experience difficulty with everyday activities due to disability, illness and the ageing process. The staff team provide guidance, support and impartial advice to help service users go about their daily life more easily and safely, at home and in the community.
The Centre has a full-scale kitchen, assessment bathroom and bedroom, as well as a large showroom area to allow you to try out everything from specialist utensils, equipment, furniture and adapted fittings, enabling you to make informed choices. Qualified Occupational Therapists are available to carry out individual assessments and advise you of the best solutions to meet your needs.
Daily living equipment is available for purchase at the 'one-stop shop'; providing access to support for those people who not meet criteria for traditional Occupational Therapy services. This service has been developed in response to individuals, who have requested this additional facility.
A ‘well-elderly’ programme is also in development, which is aimed at addressing health and wellbeing issues to prevent premature health deterioration and encourage self-management of medical conditions.

Community Equipment Store
This service supports the provision of special equipment to enable people to live independently and safely in their own home. Equipment will be provided following an assessment by Occupational Therapy staff or other Health Care Professional. The store has a fully stocked warehouse where orders are processed. Delivery of equipment will be undertaken by trained staff at a mutually arranged time. The store also has a technician who will fit grab rails and carry out minor alterations as requested by the Occupational Therapist. A full maintenance and repair service for equipment supplied by Bon Accord Care is arranged through the store. When no longer required the service will collect equipment for recycling and the store has a dedicated decontamination facility on the premises.
Hospital Direct Service
The Community Equipment Service also has a dedicated equipment provision service for residents of Aberdeen who are being discharged from hospital. Equipment will be ordered by hospital Occupational Therapists and arrangements will be made to deliver and fit the equipment either prior to discharge or on the day of discharge. The staff will ensure that the equipment meets the person’s needs and will assist with any other queries people may have once home from hospital.
